Stephen Album`s Checklist of Islamic Coins designates this coin type as Common (`C`),however, Mashhad is a rare mint for this type of coin. Additionally, the coin depicted on this page shows the date in the kalima, which is highly unusually for Safavid coinage. The date is almost always near the name of the mint city and ruler`s name. Also, this coin shows 902, an error for 920. Shahis of Isma`il I Safavi were struck from 907-923 AH.
